- Installed directly around the penetration and fixed to the wall or floor.
- Used on one or both sides, depending on the selected solution.
- Expands at approx. 105 °C and effectively seals the opening in the event of fire.
- Can be installed in gypsum, masonry, concrete and solid timber constructions.
- Used together with Protecta FR Acrylic for smoke and gas sealing around the pipe.
- Also tested for angled metal pipes (90°–45°).
- Half collars can be used where penetrations are close to walls or floors.
Application properties:
- Installation temperature (collar): -20 °C to +50 °C
- No curing time: Mechanical product
- Unlimited shelf life (when stored correctly)
Installation Video
FR Collar is developed to maintain fire and smoke resistance in fire-separating walls and floors where technical penetrations breach the construction. The solution can be used in gypsum, timber, masonry and concrete constructions, as well as concrete floors, and provides reliable fire protection even in demanding installations.
Each collar consists of a split, powder-coated steel frame that is easily fixed around the penetration. Inside the frame is a graphite-based intumescent material that reacts rapidly in a fire, expands significantly and effectively seals the void left by melting pipes and pipe insulation.
Typical applications:
- Waste and water pipes in walls and floors
- Conduits and cable bundles
- Residential buildings, commercial buildings, hospitals and schools
- Projects with high requirements for documentation and service life
Which pipe types is FR Collar approved for?
Protecta FR Collar is tested and approved with:
- PVC, PE, PP and ABS plastic pipes
- PEX and pipe-in-pipe systems
- Alupex pipes
- Insulated steel and copper pipes
- Cable bundles and conduits
Please refer to the installation instructions for dimensions and details.
In which constructions is FR Collar tested?
Protecta FR Collar is fire tested in the following types of constructions:
- Concrete and masonry walls
- Gypsum walls
- Solid timber (CLT) walls
- Floors of concrete, masonry, solid timber and composite
What fire resistance can be achieved?
From EI 30 up to EI 240, depending on pipe type, diameter, insulation, annular gap size and construction type. Refer to the installation instructions for detailed approvals.
Can the same collar be used for smaller pipes?
Yes. Larger collars can be used for smaller pipes, including angled pipes (90°–45°) up to Ø50 mm, by using oversized collars up to Ø160 mm.
Must the annular gap around the pipe be sealed?
Yes, where specified in the solution. Protecta FR Acrylic or backing material is often used to ensure correct sealing prior to collar installation.
Can FR Collar be used around multiple pipes in the same opening?
As a general rule, only one pipe per opening is permitted. There are some exceptions, such as cable bundles, PEX pipe-in-pipe systems and conduits.
Protecta FR Collar has European Technical Assessment ETA 22/0752 issued under EU Regulation 305/2011, based on EAD 350454-00-1104.
